Hello Johnson Families,
I am so excited for the 2023-2024 school year! This will be my 7th year as principal here at Johnson Elementary and my 19th year in education. The dedication of our staff and students truly shows their commitment to learning. We have had two amazing years in our new building and we can't wait to make more memories! The ribbon cutting was phenomenal and we want to continue to thank our parents and our community members who helped us get through the dusty journey! This year we will be celebrating 100 YEARS at Robert D. Johnson Elementary!

To begin, Johnson Elementary is a quaint, neighborhood school that began educating students in 1923 and has built a tradition of excellence which continues to this day.  We are a NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED U.S. Department of Education BLUE RIBBON SCHOOL. Johnson Alumni include screenwriter Chuck Pogue, award winning illustrator and National Geographic artist Greg Manchess, artist Mike Glier, Kentucky Hall of Fame Member Jaime Richey, and University of Louisville Women’s Head Basketball Coach Jeff Walz.

We provide a safe, orderly, family environment where our students can grow and learn.  We also provide enrichment to those students who need additional challenges, remediation for those times when a student may not understand a concept, and many opportunities for our students to develop their natural talents (Studio Art, Chorus, Engineering, Journalism, Chess Club, and Academic Team to name a few).

However, we do not do this alone. The success of our students is directly related to the dedication and exceptional quality of our faculty and staff, supportive parents who understand that a quality education begins at home, and students who are willing to accept the challenge of hard work. The Johnson staff and parents work together to ensure the best possible future for our children and we do this through consistent commitment and communication.

Currently, Johnson Elementary consists of full-day kindergarten, as well as grades one through five. Our staff of 50 experienced professionals have adopted the district vision to provide our 430 students with experiences that embody our strategic plan and portrait of a graduate: Courageous Leader, Empathetic Collaborator, Global Communicator, Curious and Critical Thinker, and Creative Problem Solver.

We are excited by the UNLIMITED POSSIBILITIES available to the students of Johnson Elementary and we are extremely proud of the accomplishments of our students, staff, and PTO. Johnson Elementary – Rich in Tradition, Committed to the Future!

Looking forward to making more memories,
Ashley Dikeos
